    I just received this message this morning. The information is hard to come by with so many trapped and little ability to communicate with systems down.

    HURRICANE UPDATE - NORTH CAROLINE: I just got this sent to me this morning from a former vet in the North Carolina region: “things are getting really bad really quick. He’s a fellow multiple tour Iraq vet and is not prone to exaggeration.

    He’s in NC and here’s his first update: This entire area is a war zone, even if not directly “destroyed” by flood waters. There are men, women and children starving, without water and sanitation. No fuel. People can’t get to any distribution points because they have no fuel. People are walking on foot and dragging wagons . . .

    The majority of federal and state assets are being diverted to the incorporated areas of Asheville, Black Mtn, etc. and without a deliberate effort yet into the rural unincorporated areas. People are suffering, and communities are rapidly moving to isolation and self-defense and policing.

    There are bodies floating down the rivers. There are bodies stuck in the tops of trees. Linemen entering destroyed areas are finding dozens of children as young as 3 walking thru the mud near naked, crying for their parents, some with ropes still tied on their arms attached to broken lumber where clearly their dead parents had last ditch tied them to something.

    Was talking to a lineman yesterday how he’s finding heads and limbs everytime debris is removed. Entire communities are just gone. Gone gone. Nothing to repair, and in some of the areas just no one to even help anymore. Just bodies, with a stench increasing by the day.

    The death count WILL be in the thousands. Desperation is increasing, and most vets are lying on their roofs with rifles. Local rural gas stations, markets etc have clear militias forming with men in hodge podge gear and rifles patrolling. We are self-policing now.”

    Mountain Mules Are Bringing Hope to Appalachia

    A pack of mules and the Cajun Navy 2016 are bringing food, water, medicine, and hope to the mountains of Western North Carolina. Immediately after Hurricane Helene ravaged a huge swath of the Southeast on Thursday and Friday, the pros at Mountain Mule Packer Ranch in Mount Ulla, North Carolina, sprang into action.

    Ways to donate and help flood victims in Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene - from Blue Ridge Public Radio

    The full picture of devastation is emerging from Hurricane Helene’s disastrous and deadly path through Western North Carolina.

    Homes, businesses, roads, infrastructure, cell towers, and anything else in Helene’s path were washed away or severely damaged by raging flood waters and strong winds. For so many of the nearly 1 million residents in Western North Carolina’s beautiful mountains, the recovery process has barely begun.

    Neighbors are trying to help one another and relief programs, both national and local, are mobilizing.

    To assist the public in looking for ways to contribute, volunteer, or donate, BPR has compiled the list of resources below. We'll keep this updated.

    The agency is being stretched as it works with states to assess damage from Hurricane Helene and delivers meals, water, generators and other critical supplies. The storm struck Florida last week, then plowed through several states in the Southeast, flooding towns and killing more than 160 people.

    Mayorkas was not specific about how much additional money the agency may need, but his remarks on Air Force One underscored concerns voiced by President Joe Biden and some lawmakers earlier this week that Congress may need to pass a supplemental spending bill this fall to help states with recovery efforts.

    "We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have. We are expecting another hurricane hitting," said Mayorkas, adding "FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season."

    The Biden-Harris administration's 'America Last' policies have left the country vulnerable. Between draining the strategic petroleum reserve, sending hundreds of billions in cash and equipment to Ukraine (such as electrical transformers that are now needed for Hurricane Helene), and FEMA spending $640 million to help migrants, the agency tasked with emergency preparedness is now 'broke,' and doesn't have enough money to get through hurricane season which typically lasts through November...

    And while the administration sends billions more to Ukraine, VP Kamala Harris has offered a laughable $750 in FEMA relief for hurricane victims.

    Biden announced a new $2.4B aid package to Ukraine last week while Kamala announced today that victims of Hurricane Helene will get a mere $750.

    Oh, and FEMA doesn't have enough money to make it through hurricane season yet spent $640M on illegal aliens.
