Central Fire Theory
By 500 bx most Greek astronomers believed the world to be a sphere but this also meant that there had to be a center of gravity and they also noticed that if this property didn't apply to all of the planetary or stellar body they would drift away. when a astronomer called Philolaus considered this he concluded that the earth could not be spinning around its own axis but some fixed axis. But there was the problem of explaining this to everyone else since they believed that if the earth was a sphere then the water and everything else would spill out, so he said that there was no up or down. all these reasons led Hispaniola to create a center of the known universe known as the central fire. this raised many problems with the Pythagorean school of thought since they believed that all matter off of earth had very little to no density and earth was vary dense it was the center. And that since the supposed center of the universe is where everything falls earth had to have a counterweight so Philolaus made planet exactly like earth in every way and named it Gor or counter earth. he also only believed that Gor always moved in front of earth so that we never saw the central fire and we only saw the sun.
