UK weather: Britain braced for a MONTH’S worth of rain in two days
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/weather/861043/uk-weather-forecast-october-2017-storms-track-paths-rain

BRITAIN could be hammered with a month’s worth of rain today and tomorrow as the remnants of two powerful hurricanes from the Atlantic hit.

Heavy downpours caused by Hurricane Lee closed several roads in Cumbria yesterday and some residents were provided with sandbags to protect against localised flooding.

And the tail end of Hurricane Maria is expected to hit southern England tomorrow, bringing with it grey, wet and windy weather.

The Met Office had issued a severe weather warning for the west coast today which was expected to be in the path of Hurricane Lee.

The warning has since been removed after it emerged Scotland and the north would be worst hit.

Alerts are still in place for tomorrow when torrential rain is likely to hit Northeast England and large swathes of Scotland.

Earth Changes from September 2017 - to present / Biblical Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Floods, Volcanic Activity, Fires, Snow Ice Storms - Page 4 292794

Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: “The remnants of Lee have been taken up by a separate low-pressure system we are keeping our eyes on.

“We have already had gale-force gusts around the western coasts of Scotland, northern England and Wales and it will stay windy and drizzly through the day.

“It is through this evening and into Monday when an area of low pressure pushes further south.

“Winds will strengthen across Scotland and northern England and this is what we are more concerned about.

“There could be some problems through rush hour with disruption to local transport services, roads and ferry routes.

    UK superstorm Ex-Maria: Latest Models
    Fri, September 29, 2017
Latest models show Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Lee to merge and strike into the UK.

Meanwhile, the remnants of Maria may bring some rain across southern parts of the UK later on Monday,"

The Met Office said it is important to stress that any weather impacts will be very different from those experienced in the Caribbean.

Forecasters also added that once these areas of low pressure clear away eastwards, the weather is likely to become more settled with many places seeing some periods of dry, bright weather next week.

“We will then see the remnants of Ex-Maria move in across the southern half of the UK bringing spells of rain for a short time.”

A yellow national severe weather warning for wind has been issued covering Scotland, parts of northern England and parts of Northern Ireland for Monday, as strong west or north-westerly winds may bring some disruption to transport with short interruptions to power supplies possible.

Laura Paterson, operational chief meteorologist at the Met Office, explained how the remnants of Lee and Maria may affect the weather towards the end of the weekend and into the beginning of the week.

"Although both systems will be much weaker by the time they enter the UK's latitudes, the heat and moisture from ex-Lee will give a 'boost' to another developing area of low pressure further north, bringing some heavy rain and strong winds for many northern and western parts of the UK on Sunday.

Volcanic Eruptions to Cool Earth, Record Arctic Sea Ice Growth Happening (463)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWXRbrtNWas

Vanuatu evacuates an island due to volcanic eruption, Bali evacuates villages due to volcanic eruption, Sinabung erupts, but what they dont tell you is that every Grand Solar Minimum there are massive eruptions that destroy global crop production. Now with record Arctic sea ice growth in 2017, the most ever recorded in September, the global warming crowd is just hoping for an eruption so they can blame Earths cooling temperatures on the volcano, not the Sun, which is the true driver of our climate.

    First Blizzard of the Season Breaks October Snow Record in Havre, Montana;
Heavy Snow Closes I-70 in Colorado

The first blizzard of the season has resulted in widespread power outages and downed trees in parts of Montana. Treacherous travel conditions and additional power outages are possible through Tuesday, as this early-season snowstorm continues to sweep through the Rockies.

Unlike the snow the Rockies experienced in September, this storm is having a greater impact since valley locations are also being affected, in addition to typical mountain areas.

Interstate 70 was closed in Colorado between Vail and Copper Mountain for a time Monday morning due to accidents and vehicles sliding off the icy road. Shelters were opened to take in stranded travelers in the area.

More than a foot of snow has accumulated in many locations, including an estimated 14 inches of snow that was measured at the Vail Pass rest area on Interstate 70 as of Monday morning.

Several ski resorts in the high country of Colorado have expressed their excitement about the snow.

Loveland Ski Area provided this image showing how the snow had piled up on their measuring platform at an elevation of 10,894 feet before power was knocked out there. More than a foot of snow had been measured at that location by early Monday.

Moderate to heavy snow is also expected in portions of Montana through Tuesday where the National Weather Service (NWS) has posted winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories.

Earth Changes from September 2017 - to present / Biblical Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Floods, Volcanic Activity, Fires, Snow Ice Storms - Page 4 DLLB299UMAA4TVb

The NWS warned residents of the potential for power outages and tree damage since early-season winter weather events typically feature heavy, wet snow. The snow weighs down tree branches that still have leaves, making them more vulnerable to breaking.

Wind gusts up to 45 mph are also possible, which will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow. In addition, tree damage will remain possible even after the snow ends.

Havre, Montana, has seen 14.8 inches of heavy, wet snow as of late Monday night, which would set a new record for highest snow total in October there if verified. The previous record was 8.6 inches, which fell on Oct. 4, 1914.

Many large tree branches are down, and all of Havre was without power the Hill County Sheriff reported around 10 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, this storm was effectively a blizzard in the Havre area, especially considering the severe impacts. A blizzard occurs when the following conditions are met for at least three hours: sustained winds or frequent gusts to at least 35 mph and considerable falling and/or blowing snow that frequently reduces visibility to less than a quarter mile.

In southeast Wyoming, the first snowflakes of the season were observed in Cheyenne on Monday morning. This coincides with the date of when the average first measurable snow has historically occurred in Cheyenne – Oct. 2.

Heavy snow was observed in northwest Wyoming on Togwotee Pass, where around 2 feet of snow had piled up by Monday evening.

Several inches of additional snow may accumulate, mainly in parts of Montana, before the storm pulls away later Tuesday.

    Snowfall Forecast
The heaviest snowfall totals as of early Tuesday morning include:

    20.4 inches near Encampment, Wyoming
18 inches near Steamboat Springs, Colorado
16 inches near Cameron Pass, Colorado
Up to 15 inches near Breckenridge, Colorado
14.8 inches in Havre, Montana (many large tree branches down; sporadic power outages around town)
14 inches at the Vail Pass rest area on Interstate 70 in Colorado
    12 inches near Laramie, Wyoming
    10 inches near Avon, Colorado

As of midnight, Great Falls, Montana measured an inch and Helena had received 1.2 inches of snow. Light snow was also reported in Missoula overnight.

Epic Martian solar storm sparks global aurora, doubles planet’s radiation levels (IMAGES)
    https://www.rt.com/news/405558-mars-sun-blast-nasa/

Mars was hit by an unexpected blast from the sun in September, doubling radiation levels on the surface and causing an incredibly bright aurora over the planet. The “solar event” took place on September 11, and was observed by Nasa’s missions in orbit and on Mars’ surface.

"Nasa's distributed set of science missions is in the right place to detect activity on the sun and examine the effects of such solar events at Mars as never possible before," said Elsayed Talaat, program scientist for NASA’s Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) mission.

The aurora was more than 25 times brighter than any previously observed by MAVEN, which has been studying the Martian atmosphere’s interaction with the solar wind since 2014.

The strong solar blast also more than doubled radiation levels on the Red Planet’s surface, according to readings by Nasa’s on-the-ground mission, the Curiosity rover.

Another “strange” element of the phenomenon, according to Nasa, was that the unseasonable blast occurred during a usually-quiet period within the sun’s 11-year sunspot and storm-activity cycle.

"The current solar cycle has been an odd one, with less activity than usual during the peak, and now we have this large event as we're approaching solar minimum," said Sonal Jain a member of MAVEN's Imaging Ultraviolet Spectrograph instrument team.

The blast was so strong that readings remained high on the surface for more than two days and was big enough to be detected from Earth – even though we sit on the opposite side of the sun from Mars.

"This is exactly the type of event both missions were designed to study, and it's the biggest we've seen on the surface so far," said RAD Principal Investigator Don Hassler.

"It will improve our understanding of how such solar events affect the Martian environment, from the top of the atmosphere all the way down to the surface," Hassler added.

Hurricane could strike US Gulf Coast this weekend, forecasters warn
It will hit somewhere between Mobile, Alabama and Florida’s capital, Tallahasse, National Hurricane Center warns

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hurricane-us-gulf-coast-mobile-alabama-tallahasse-florida-national-hurricane-center-warns-a7983816.html

Weeks after parts of the US were devastated by a pair of deadly hurricanes, forecasters are warning that another one could strike America’s Gulf Coast over the weekend.

The newly formed tropical depression is currently lingering around 45 miles away the south west Caribbean  island of San Andres.

But America’s National Hurricane Center has warned it is expected to become a tropical storm.  It then expects the storm to develop into a Category 1 hurricane over the weekend when it will hit somewhere between Mobile, Alabama and Florida’s capital, Tallahassee.

The announcement comes less than a month after large swathes of the southern US and Caribbean islands were left devastated by a series of hurricanes

Hurricane Harvey lashed Texas causing flooding that put it on the scale of Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

It was followed by one of the most powerful Atlantic storms on record, Hurricane Irma, which ravaged several islands in the northern Caribbean before churning into Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Lloyd’s of London underwriter Hiscox Ltd estimated on Monday that it would face net claims totalling about $225m (£170m) from Harvey and Irma, as insurers and reinsurers count the cost of the hurricanes.

Hurricane Maria later struck the island of Puerto Rico – a US territory. The Mayor of the island’s capital, Carmen Yulia Cruz called the devastation “something close to genocide”.

Almost two weeks on, nearly half of all Puerto Ricans remain without power, and many have limited access to food and water.

Oxfam International – a global organisation working to end world poverty – has stepped in to help, citing the US government's "slow and inadequate response".  (FAKE NEWS as the ones slow and inadequate were the corrupt government officials involved in organizing the truckers to strike so that they would NOT deliver all of the supplies sitting on the docks.)

President Donald Trump finally visited the island earlier this week after sparring with Ms Cruz, after she took to the airwaves earlier this week to beg for assistance for the island's capital.

"Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help," Mr Trump tweeted. "They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort."

After meeting with officials on the island At the meeting, Mr Trump joked that recovery efforts had hampered the federal budget.

“I hate to tell you Puerto Rico, but you’ve thrown our budget a little out of whack, because we have spent a lot of money on Puerto Rico – and that’s fine,” he said.

He also said that said Puerto Rico should be “very proud” of the death toll from Hurricane Maria, contrasting it to the “thousands” of people who died in Hurricane Katrina.

'Six inches of extra snow': La Niña to bring a VERY cold and windy winter
to the Northeast and possibly a white Christmas

Temperatures in the northern Plains could fall to below 30 degrees below zero

Northeast and mid-Atlantic states face more snow than normal

The winter of 2016-2017 spawned colossal storms, dropping 140 percent of normal snowfall over the northern Plains and northern Rockies

Around the holidays there should be some snow for the interior Northeast

According to AccuWeather, areas that typically receive large amounts of lake-effect snow - including Cleveland, Ohio; Erie, Pennsylvania; and Buffalo, New York - will be getting hit quite heavily.

Both snow and ice are predicted in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and throughout the Northeast. In addition to being colder than last year, snowfall in New York City and Boston could be about six inches above normal, 'within a few inches,' meteorologist Paul Pastelok said.

Additionally, the forecast holds good news for skiers and those who believe it isn't Christmas without snow. 'I think this year is going to bring a good ski season in the Northeast,' Pastelok said. 'And around the holidays we should have some snow for the interior Northeast.'

Although Northern California's Sierra Nevada mountain range is expected to be less snowy, it should still receive enough snowfall for good skiing conditions in the Northwest, including the Cascades, and the Rockies.

'I think the Bitterroot chain all the way down to the Wasatch region in the central and northern Rockies has a good shot to be above normal on snowfall this season,' Pastelok said.

Arctic blasts are expected to freeze the northern Plains this winter with temperatures sinking to subzero levels on a regular basis.

In fact, temperatures could plummet to minus 30F at times in North and South Dakota, Pastelok said.
However, the frigid conditions are a trade-off for less snowfall.

The winter of 2016-2017 spawned colossal storms, dropping 140 percent of normal snowfall over the northern Plains and northern Rockies, according to Pastelok. This year will feature much less snow and drier conditions overall.
Winter will be comparatively mild in the Southern Plains, the Southwest and southern California, where forecasters say winter will be milder and drier than last year.

According to Pastelok, warmth will bookend the winter with temperatures capable of reaching 90F or highter by early 2018.

A swarm of almost 2,500 earthquakes has been recorded at Yellowstone National Park.
    EARTHQUAKE SWARM AT YELLOWSTONE SUPERVOLCANO
NOW ONE OF THE LONGEST EVER RECORDED

    http://www.newsweek.com/yellowstone-supervolcano-earthquake-swarm-longest-ever-recorded-677387

Updated | The ongoing earthquake swarm at the Yellowstone National Park supervolcano is now one of the longest ever recorded, having started on June 12. Over the past three and a half months, almost 2,500 earthquakes have been recorded in the western part of the national park. This puts it on a par with the biggest swarm ever recorded, where more than 3,000 earthquakes took place over three months.

The swarm in no way signals an impending eruption, and it appears now to be coming to an end. However, experts at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) say it has been “fascinating” to monitor and are eager to learn more about it in their analysis of the event.

In a monthly update about activity at Yellowstone, the USGS said 115 earthquakes had been reported in the park during September. Of these, 78 were part of the ongoing swarm 6 miles north of West Yellowstone. The biggest event in the swarm last month was magnitude 2.3.

“Including the events from the prior three monthly reports beginning on June 12, total swarm seismicity includes one earthquake of magnitude 4.4, 12 in the magnitude 3 range, and 185 earthquakes in the magnitude 2 range,” the statement said.

Earthquake swarms account for about 50 percent of the seismic activity recorded at Yellowstone. Swarms occur when many earthquakes take place over several weeks or months, with no clear sequence—unlike traditional earthquakes, where there is a main event, then a series of aftershocks.

Mike Poland, the scientist-in-charge at the USGS’s Yellowstone Volcano Observatory, tells Newsweek that it is a “bit too soon” to say whether the swarm has ended. “But the activity has certainly waned drastically since August, and the swarm appears to be winding down, if not completely over,” he says. “It will probably take a little while longer to declare it ‘over.’”

He says that the actual number of earthquakes that have taken place is difficult to ascertain because quakes can overlap or are too small to be recorded. However, there are ways to retrospectively locate some of these events, so it could be that there have been “many times more earthquakes” than initially reported.

“This is the sort of work that will happen in the months to come, as we gather up all of the available data and start crunching numbers,” Poland says. “What we can say now is that through the end of September, the University of Utah has located 2,475 earthquakes in the swarm. This puts the 2017 swarm on par with that of 1985, which lasted three months and had over 3,000 located events.

“[This is] certainly a fascinating event and one that we hope to learn more about through some post-swarm analysis,” he adds. “There's a lot to work on this winter, for sure.”

TROPICAL STORM NATE, EXPECTED TO FORM,
COULD BE THE NEXT HURRICANE TO HIT THE U.S.

    http://www.newsweek.com/tropical-storm-nate-hurricane-maria-atlantic-hurricanes-678408

The Atlantic hurricane season of 2017 has been one of the most intense for years, with 13 named storms and five major hurricanes so far.

But it’s not over yet. Forecasters are predicting that a tropical depression currently hovering over Central America could evolve into a hurricane by the weekend—which would be named Nate—and possibly hit the U.S. Gulf Coast by the weekend.

Tropical Depression 16, as it is currently known, is located around 50 miles south of the northeast coast of Nicaragua, in the Caribbean Sea, according to an advisory issued by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) at 5:00 a.m. Eastern time on Thursday. The storm is currently moving northwest and has wind speeds of around 35 mph.

At present, there are no weather warnings in place for the United States: Nicaragua and Honduras are expecting tropical storm conditions, while parts of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula are also under hurricane watch.

But that could change in the coming days if the depression strengthens to a tropical storm on Thursday and grows in intensity as it crosses the Gulf of Mexico. That means that it could be a hurricane by the time it reaches the Gulf Coast at the weekend, bringing “direct impacts from wind, storm surge, and heavy rainfall,” according to NHC forecaster Daniel Brown.

While it is too early to specify the location and possible magnitude of the storm’s impact on the U.S., Brown said that “residents along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana through the Florida Panhandle should monitor the progress of this system and heed any advice given by local officials.”

The United States, along with Mexico and the Caribbean, has already been rocked by hurricanes in 2017. In August, Hurricane Harvey became the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States in 12 years. The storm battered Texas and Louisiana, causing over 70 deaths and potentially costing hundreds of billions of dollars.

Weeks later, the continental United States was spared the worst of the impact of Hurricane Irma, a category 5 storm that devastated much of the Caribbean and left some islands virtually destroyed. But it still led to more than 80 deaths in Florida, where more than six million people were ordered to evacuate the state.

A canal in a trailer park is filled with debris and campers following powerful Hurricane Irma in Marathon, in the Florida Keys, Florida, on September 12.

In September, Hurricane Maria brought major devastation to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. At least 34 people were killed in Puerto Rico, which is still mostly without water, electricity and cellphone service more than two weeks after the hurricane hit on September 20.

President Donald Trump visited Puerto Rico on Tuesday and joked that the island territory had “thrown our budget a little out of whack” because the federal government had “spent a lot of money” on dealing with the storm’s impact.

The names of storms for each hurricane season are already predetermined by the NHC. If or when it reaches tropical storm status, the current system will take on the name Nate.

Some experts are predicting that the storm could disrupt some industries, including offshore energy, and cotton and orange farming in the southeast United States. Royal Dutch Shell is keeping staff in the region to a minimum, while BP is evacuating nonessential staff from platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, Bloomberg reported.

Florida Governor Rick Scott was briefed about the system’s potential impact on Florida on Wednesday and urged residents weary from the impact of previous storms to remain vigilant.

“Let’s remember, we are still in the heart of hurricane season and while it’s hard to imagine experiencing another storm right now, everyone has to be prepared,” said Scott.

Tropical Storm Nate Moves Toward the Gulf Coast; Emergencies Declared in Louisiana, Alabama, Florida

As the eventual path of Tropical Storm Nate became clearer, officials along the Gulf Coast warned residents to prepare and not take the storm lightly.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency Thursday for 29 counties in response to the storm.

"Tropical Storm Nate is headed north toward our state and Florida must be prepared," said Scott in the release. "I have declared a state of emergency for 29 counties in Florida to make certain that state, federal and local governments are able to work together and ensure resources are dispersed to local communities. By declaring an emergency in these counties, we can also ensure that there is no hindrance in the transportation of supplies and assets."

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency Thursday, according to the Associated Press. He announced 1,300 National Guard troops are being mobilized and 15 are heading to New Orleans to monitor the pumping system. A flood in early August revealed the pump issues across the Big Easy.

"We do anticipate a direct hit in Louisiana," Edwards said in a statement obtained by the AP. "The bottom line for people is: You need to be where you want to be and in the posture you want to be by dark on Saturday."

On Thursday, city officials met to discuss the status of the drainage systems. Repairs have been made, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported, but not all of the turbine generators are fully operational yet.

Evacuations were ordered in part of St. Bernard Parish on Thursday, the AP reported.

Officials in Grand Isle, a barrier island south of New Orleans, issued a voluntary evacuation for residents.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu urged residents to make a plan and stock up on at least three days' worth of supplies, according to a release. He said the city is working with local, federal and state partners to identify the risks and vulnerabilities of the city and determine how to keep residents safe.

The city has almost 40 boats and more than 20 high-water vehicles and other rescue supplies staged at fire and police stations, and four high-water vehicles and two boats that the Emergency Medical Services headquarters, the release stated. The New Orleans Police Department has placed 146 barricades in flood-prone areas to keep motorists from driving into areas with high water.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey declared a state of emergency Thursday in order to free up personnel and resources in case responders need to be dispatched for any storm-related activity, the AP reported.

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Director Lee Smithson said people living along the Gulf Coast should pay attention to reports from emergency officials and start making their own storm preparations.

On Thursday, a release from the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said the agency would evacuate platforms and rigs in the Gulf of Mexico ahead of the storm. Six of the 737 platforms in the Gulf were evacuated and one moveable rig was taken out of the path of the storm.

At least 22 people were killed Thursday after Tropical Storm Nate moved over Central America with clusters of heavy rain and gusty winds.

In Nicaragua, at least 15 were killed, including two women and a man working with the Health Ministry to provide aid were killed after being swept away by a flooded canal in Juigalpa, vice president and spokeswoman Rosario Murillo told the Associated Press.

The nation had already been dealing with two weeks of persistent rainfall before the storm, which left rivers at high levels and the soil saturated, the AP also said.

Costa Rican authorities said Thursday that there have been seven deaths in the country and 15 are missing.

Nate and the larger circulation it developed from produced heavy rain over Central America the last few days, according to weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce. This rainfall led to flooding with additional floods and mudslides likely as the storm lifts northward toward Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula late this week.

In Costa Rica, at least 5,000 people have fled to emergency shelters, according to the AP. All public schools and offices will remain closed Friday, the Costa Rica Star reported.

The U.S. Gulf Coast braced Friday for a fast-moving blast of wind, heavy rain and rising water as deadly Tropical Storm Nate threatened to reach hurricane strength before a weekend landfall.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu on Friday ordered an evacuation of some areas and a mandatory curfew ahead of Nate.

The curfew will be in effect from Saturday evening to Sunday morning, the mayor said at a news conference.
Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi declared states of emergency as the storm twisted toward the U.S. Gulf Coast on Friday after killing at least 22 people in Central America.

The National Hurricane Center issued hurricane and storm surge warnings for southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi and Alabama coasts.

Nate is the latest in a succession of destructive storms this hurricane season.

The storm is forecast to dump 3 to 6 inches of rain on the region - with isolated totals of up to 12 inches. That much rain led authorities to warn of flash flooding and mudslides.

By midafternoon Friday, Nate was moving at a speed of 21 mph (33 kph). Its center was located about 125 miles (200 kilometers) east-southeast of Cozumel, Mexico, and was expected to reach the U.S. late Saturday or early Sunday.
Evacuation orders were issued for some coastal communities, including the Louisiana towns of Jean Lafitte and Grand Isle.

Japan 6.0 Earthquake Shakes Fukushima Nuclear Disaster Site
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/japan-earthquake-shakes-fukushima-nuclear-160535294.html

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake rocked Japan's coastline Friday, threatening an already volatile area and recalling the disaster of 2011, in which at least 16,000 people died.

Friday's temblor struck at about 4 a.m. EDT near the Japan Trench, about 200 miles away from the Fukushima nuclear disaster site, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The most recent quake did not trigger a tsunami, and no injuries nor damaged buildings were immediately reported Friday. But all eyes remained on the sensitive Fukushima region, which is still recovering from the damage caused by the previous disaster.

Despite Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's September statement that the plant is now "under control," the disaster is still not over. Authorities had to pump tons of water into the plant to try to lower temperatures, and they now face the challenge of dealing with the contaminated water. This week, more than six years since the disaster, scientists found radioactive cesium in sand and water as far as 60 miles away.

"Over 9 million cubic meters of nuclear waste are scattered over at least 113,000 locations across Fukushima prefecture," Kendra Ulrich of Greenpeace Japan said in a 2016 news release. "The Abe government is perpetuating a myth that five years after the start of the nuclear accident the situation is returning to normal. The evidence exposes this as political rhetoric, not scientific fact."

Earthquakes like Friday's not only scare residents who fear another tsunami but also affect Fukushima cleanup efforts, which are projected to last for the next four decades, according to The Guardian.

Massive fires in Napa and Sonoma counties burn structures, force evacuations, close hospitals
    http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/2-big-wildfires-prompt-evacuations-in-Napa-County-12262945.php

Several massive wildfires burned out of control in Napa and Sonoma counties early Monday, destroying an untold number of homes and businesses, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people and shutting down major roadways as firefighters sought to halt the advance of infernos that were driven by powerful winds.

There was no immediate estimate of the damage or the extent of injuries — nor an explanation for the sheer number of fires — but structures were burning in both counties, according to authorities and witnesses. One blaze in and around northern Santa Rosa had burned at least 20,000 acres by 6 a.m., threatening shopping centers, schools and the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts.

Earth Changes from September 2017 - to present / Biblical Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Floods, Volcanic Activity, Fires, Snow Ice Storms - Page 4 920x920

Firefighters work to save structures on Soda Canyon Road in Napa, Calif., on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017.
Residents described fleeing for their lives in the middle of the night from that fire, in cars or on foot.

Two hospitals in Santa Rosa, those run by Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health, were evacuated. Power outages were widespread. People flocked to gas stations in cities that were safe from the conflagrations, to fuel up and buy water and other supplies. Evacuation centers were set up, then quickly filled, forcing more to open.

In several cities, including Napa, Santa Rosa and Petaluma, public school leaders closed all schools Monday.

The series of fires began to ignite Sunday and multiplied as the night went on, hitting Napa and Sonoma the hardest but affecting at least five counties.

In Mendocino County, authorities evacuated communities near Redwood Valley and Willits. In Marin County, officials said at 3 a.m. that a grass fire had closed part of Highway 37. In Alameda County, fire crews from multiple jurisdictions were battling a blaze in the North Berkeley hills at 3:45 a.m. They later declared it under control, and no homes were damaged.

All over the region, flames raced across fields and freeways and skies filled with embers and ash. The National Weather Service said the blazes, which caused power outages and blanketed much of the Bay Area in smoke, were fanned by dry northeast winds that gusted up to 50 mph in the valleys and 70 mph on mountaintops. Those winds were expected to ease later in the day.

In Napa County, the Atlas Fire broke out near Atlas Peak Road and blackened hundreds of acres in a famed wine-growing area northeast of the city of Napa and the Silverado Trail. A second Napa County blaze to the northwest, near Calistoga, forced residents to flee their homes as well.

Guests of the Silverado Resort and Spa on Atlas Peak Road said they had been evacuated in a rush as flames approached. The resort had hosted the Safeway Open, a PGA Tour event, which ended Sunday.

“We were sleeping, but we kept smelling smoke,” said Chris Thomas, 42, of Kirkland, Wash., who arrived in the Napa Valley late Sunday with his wife, Marissa Schneider, for a wine-tasting trip.

They saw a firetruck pass, then were ordered to leave by loudspeaker. The power went out. Then things went downhill fast.

“It was surreal,” Thomas said. “When I started loading stuff into the car it was a hell-storm of smoke and ash. There were 30 to 40 mph winds. I couldn’t even breathe, so I ran back to the unit to get Marissa. It was so smoky I went to the wrong unit. When I found her I said, ‘Forget it, let’s just go.’ It went from being an annoying evacuation to something really scary.”

Schneider said, “Debris was gusting around. The flames were about 100 feet from our door. It was scary.”

They drove to downtown Napa and found a hotel room, though they were wary of being evacuated again.

In the Kenwood area, east of Santa Rosa, evacuations were ordered along Porter Creek, Petrified Forest, Franz Valley and Mountain Home Ranch roads.

In northern Santa Rosa, officials said the Tubbs Fire had burned at least 20,000 acres. Evacuations were first ordered for residents and businesses in the Skyfarm Drive, Fountaingrove Parkway and Montecito Heights areas east of Highway 101, according to the city Police Department.

Just after 2 a.m., police reported the fire had jumped Highway 101 and “ignited structures” west of the freeway near a Kohl’s department store on Hopper Avenue. Evacuations were then ordered for that area. Residents later said they had seen homes, shops and restaurants burning.

“This is a life-threatening event,” officials said. “Leave immediately.”

Among those who left the Hopper Avenue area were 11 members of the Flores family, who woke up and piled into two vehicles with four dogs after being jolted awake by neighbors. They said the air was thick with smoke and the wind was blowing so hard that trash bins toppled over.

“We couldn’t really see anything,” said Bradley Flores, 15. “We just got our dogs and got into the car and left. The wind was so bad our car was shaking.”

He spoke from the parking lot of a Chevron gas station in Petaluma. The lot was full of evacuees who were fueling up, buying water and talking on cell phones.

Among those who made it to Petaluma were Lance and Barb Cottrell, who live near Santa Rosa. At about midnight, they saw fire cresting over the ridge near their home, after a neighbor rang the doorbell. They packed a couple of suitcases, grabbed some prized antiques and headed to a friend’s house to the west of Highway 101.

“Our house is probably gone,” Lance said. “We just finished it in 2014.”

Soon, though, flames raced so fast into their friend’s neighborhood that people ran for their lives. Lance jumped in his car, and Barb in hers, and they tried to drive away, but they they saw a house engulfed in front of them and had to make a U-turn. They ended up stuck in traffic before escaping down country roads west of Santa Rosa, avoiding trees that had blown down.

The scene was similar in Napa County. On Highway 121 between Sonoma and Napa, flames chewed up vegetation on both sides of the road, shooting embers as a stream of people fled the area. Some drivers pulled over to the side of the road at safe spots, looking back at the fires. Police and firefighters tried to keep people moving.

Sonoma County officials said emergency dispatchers were being “overwhelmed by 911 calls” from residents smelling smoke, adding, “Please only call 911 if you see actual unattended flames.” Authorities in Marin and San Francisco counties made the same plea, asking residents who smell smoke not to call 911 unless they see flames.

In a posting here 27 hours earlier...THE START OF THE NAPA FIRESTORM WAS PREDICTED,
    TO THE MINUTE!

    Gee Whiz.

The two largest fires in Napa California, the Atlas fire and the Tubbs fire, are each reported at SFGate.com to have begun at 9:20 p.m. [Sunday night October 8-9, 2017] California time, that is 11:20 p.m. CDT, and is 4:20 a.m. October 9, Greenwich Mean Time.

    http://m.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Latest-on-North-Bay-fires-A-really-rough-12263721.php

    In a posting at 6:27 p.m. PDT October 7 I wrote:

"I reckon something huge gonna happen in the next 30 hours....

"...If tonight doesn't see something obvious, then I bet tomorrow night sure does: Tomorrow night is anniversary in Mayan and Hebrew calendrics of some of the most significant earthquakes of all time..."

    I then list several earthquakes which "pinpoint" 11:20 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. midnight Sunday night October 8-9, 2017.

I have explained before, repeatedly, that earthquakes can predict disasters and other events to the minute.

My posting at 6:27 p.m. California Time Saturday 8 October concludes with these sentences:

"Great Chicago, Illinois Fire began Sunday night October 8-9,1871.

60 GeoEngineered Fire Storms in Northern California Out of Nowhere
Geoengineered storms appeared out of nowhere in California. Blue sparks from the sky!
Are these fires being used to fuel more weather storm creations to the West?
as Denver is today being hit with a large snowstorm?

At 1 am last night 60 separate explosive fires like never before seen hit Sonoma and Napa Counties up to Mendocino County. Around 11:30 pm last night winds began to swirl out of nowhere. There was no weather event predicted or forecast.

At 1 am over 60 fires combusted but there was no lightning, and no warning. Mass evacuations in the middle of the night took place. many running out of gas heading West to the coast, since north 101 at Santa Rosa and East to Napa were on fire.

This is Geo TErrorism, as evidenced by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, Nate and now fires from the sky in the middle of the night out of nowhere,
