In Milan, Italy, work has started to convert two residential towers into 'vertical forests'. Architect and developer, Stefano Boeli's project has been named Bosco Verticale, and it will accommodate more than 900 plants and trees which would normally occupy 10,000 square feet of ground in a natural setting.

The plants will provide oxygen, whilst absorbing dust and carbon dioxide, improving Milan's air quality, which currently ranks amongst the worst in Italy. The towers will also shield other buildings from noise and heat.
