The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen in New Jersey hopes to provide those living on a prayer with a cheap alternative to fast food
Jon Bon Jovi is opening a new “pay-what-you-can” restaurant, hoping to give low-income families an alternative to unhealthy fast food.

The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen opened on Wednesday in Red Bank, New Jersey, near the singer’s hometown of Sayreville. After two years of serving meals in various locations, the “community kitchen” has set up a permanent location in a 1,100 sq ft former garage. While customers are welcome to pay for their meals, those who are, er, living on a prayer may instead work as volunteers.

I’ve Seen People Turn Garbage Into Some Cool Stuff. But THIS…. This Is Absolute Brilliance.

Gregory Kloehn goes dumpster diving, but not for the reason that most people would think. He isn’t homeless. In fact, he is an artist from Oakland that is trying to help the homeless and develop his craft at the same time.

Instead of building sculptures that he would sell to rich people to add to their massive homes, he decided to focus his efforts on helping house the homeless population in California.

Gregory digs through illegally dumped trash and goes dumpster diving.
Someone imagined it ... I like what he did - Page 4 Homeless-shelters3

He uses what he collects to build small, one room shelters for the homeless.

And his homelessness project is getting attention.

Someone imagined it ... I like what he did - Page 4 Homeless-shelters4

Not only from the media, but from the people he helps as well.

The “little homeless homes” are about the size of the sofa.

Someone imagined it ... I like what he did - Page 4 Homeless-shelters1

But, something that small can mean the world to someone living on the streets.

Camping is awesome, but anyone who camps out in a tent knows that pitching one on the ground can be a real pain.  Rough or uneven ground and wet or snowy conditions can make for a very uncomfortable night out in the wilderness, not to mention the creepy crawly insects and critters that can have access to your shelter.  These awesome floating tents from Tenstile alleviate those problems, and provide a very cool way to “hang out” in the trees.

Someone imagined it ... I like what he did - Page 4 Treehouse-tent

Inspired by spider webs, London architect Alex Shirley-Smith envisioned a ready-made, floating portable treehouse shelter that could be carried in a backpack and assembled anywhere quickly – the wilderness, a backyard, or even in the city.  In 2010 he made the first prototype – the Tentsile Stingray.  This tent only takes about 10 minutes to set up and will shelter 4 people.

What a brilliant idea. Last time I went camping we found a snake lying alongside the mat I was supposed to sleep on. If I can get a tent like that, I'll consider going again.  The Winner

Last time I went camping was my first and last one . Not a great experience even without snakes alongside the mat.
But this tent is soooooo appealing :) I understand your enthusiasm  cheers

“Those shining stars, he liked to point out, were one of the special treats for people like us who lived out in the wilderness. Rich city folks, he’d say, lived in fancy apartments, but their air was so polluted they couldn’t even see the stars. We’d have to be out of our minds to want to trade places with any of them.”

One piece of log creates a small fire, adequate to warm you up, add just a few more pieces to blast an immense bonfire, large enough to warm up your entire circle of friends; needless to say that individuality counts but team work dynamites.

This 9-Year-Old Built A Nonprofit, No-Kill Animal Shelter Out Of His Garage To Help Stray Animals

Someone imagined it ... I like what he did - Page 4 210

Ken, 9, has grown up dreaming about someday having a shelter to help the stray animals that live near his home, but he never dreamed he could reach his goal so soon.

Ken did his best to help the local stray dogs and cats he came across near his home in the Philippines, he frequently spent time with them and offered them food, but he longed for the funds to open a no-kill shelter where he could really help his furry friends, according to The Happy Animals Club website.

Then, a few months ago, photos of Ken with three strays made their way onto the Internet, and people from all over the world began to donate money.

“We got enough money to get the dogs I was feeding off the street, feed them high quality canned food, and provide them with veterinary care,” he wrote on his website.

    Living symphonies in the forest

Someone imagined it ... I like what he did - Page 4 Forest-hd-wallpaper-2

A new and deceptively sophisticated installation is about artists, audience and nature itself connecting in real time, writes Laurence Rose, who visited a Living Symphony in Thetford Forest.

The sounds are coming from the ground and the tree-tops, melding across the whole 30-metre diameter sonosphere and always accompanied by the resident ensemble of chaffinches, wrens and chiffchaffs.

You approach Living Symphonies along several hundred meters of forest track.

At each turn the human sounds of the car park, cafe and play area recede and the songs of goldcrest and siskin, and of wind in trees, take over. You keep following the signs, and gradually become aware of a new set of sounds.

Bell-like harmonics, muffled by the forest at first, become clearer as you approach, and eventually much finer sonic detail is revealed as you find yourself on the edge, and then in the midst, of a concert hall whose architecture is that of the trees themselves.
