    cheers

I'm not going anywhere unless I am sent away. I love this place. And now the HTML? Weeeeeeeeee

Thanks for the heart-hug. I felt it.

    OMG..."Chairmen of the Board". hehe

I was raised on this stuff (3 older sisters).

When I was in Monterey, we listened to all sorts of stuff. Billie Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Rusted Root, Led Zep, Stones (only white people were around; I could go weeks without hearing an electric guitar and it still would not be enough).

It was like going back in the closet 30 years.

And being Gay, everybody assumes I am the little gay expert, so they ask any question they feel like, then go on with their assaults on my culture (not on purpose; they are just in their own program, like many of us).

Yeh I have to agree.. This place is very intimate and I do feel a "Family Connection" here at The Mists.. Just somebody please ground me if I get off track.. Yesterday was an emotional day for me, given my Dad's passing and all.. His Birthday was yesterday too so if I offended anyone I am "sorry"... Donna forgives me...

Sorry if I glossed over that. I saw your post about your dad, and it made me think of my mom.

My sister and I sat here and cried while we listened to those Neil Diamond songs.

All if as well as can be, and I do understand.

Do not worry. Some can bang out a dissertation of a response in milli-seconds after someone hits the "send" button.

I have been fortunate for the most part, but the way some go at it here is scary. Not that I cannot get as nasty, but that's the easy thing to do. And I do not need to go online for that. :op

Edit: It's the stranger in a strange land thing...even though we know we are supposed to be here right now, I do not feel like I belong here (3D Earth).

I will see if my sis remembers this label...it did not make our list. There used to be so many labels. Some were quite beautiful, and designed perfectly to captivate the eye while spinning on the turntable.

Oh and Donna on Casablanca...her name and that label went together like Donna Summer and Casablanca Records. hehe

    Ahhh...."labels" of yester-year.

    Snazzy avatar!

    Madonna - True Blue - 1986

This album came out while I was a speaking-in-tongues, Pentacostal.

I heard "Papa don't preach" at the park, and I knew I could not continue to live a life without music (I destroyed all of my records for that church).

When I joyously purchased my stereo, "True Blue" was the first album to take a spin.

Of course, it also reminds me of Gregg's ex-wife. She and I used to hang and chill and listen to that record until she shape-shifted into the great controller.

Even I have to admit that this is one of the gayest songs she ever recorded (a cover of a Barry Manilow song). In honor of their fans who helped them get started and get filthy rich, I say Donna, Barry and Bette Midler should record an album in a gay bath house (that would freak out Donna, but the others are familiar with them).

    Insanely Happy

    Edit -

Hmmm...raises another topic: Racism, Homophobia, and Disco...

Although terms like "Heterosexist" and/or "Heteronormative" are more appropriate.

That is smooth. Summer is my favorite time of year, but at the moment, a brandy coffee sounds good. Even a St. Bernard with a flask would be fine...

Mahalia Jackson was a major influence on Donna....

Stor kind of ruined this parody video of Donna and Liza. Anyhow, the cartoons are still silly. I love the look on Liza's face when Donna blows her out of the water with her voice. lol

Sorry for poor sound and irritating remix, but this is about the characters, and not the music.

And the only reason this happened is because Barbra's Gay son was huge fan of Donna's, and he begged his mom to do it.

    Ordinary Guy - Another Place & Time - Page 2 Nomore10

This song went to number one while Donna was suing Casablanca Records. It held her other song at the #2 spot. She was pissed about this, because "Dim all the lights" from Bad Girls album was a song she wrote, produced, arranged, and so on.

Like many women back in the day, they did not get credit for much of their own production, because the program said that female artists sold more records with male producers.

Donna addresses rumors about false allegations of anti-gay statements. There is a better interview if I can find it, where she explains what happened.

One night after a concert, and during her radical years, she asked anybody who felt like staying to hang out. Some had prayer requests (Donna can sing in tongues and went to a church with someone I dated who heard her do it; another story).

Someone yelled at Donna that she believed AIDS was punishment by God for homosexual behavior. The press turned it around and said she said it.

Oh wow...this was one of a few singles she released in Europe, prior to her first album ("Lady of the Night"), NOT Love to Love You Baby (her second album and breakthrough). Lady of the night was a German schlagger album (she is fluent in German), but sang in English.

Birth name (not the I know what the numbers mean yet):

    LaDonna Adrian Gaines

    Married Helmut Somer

    Anglicized her name to Summer.

Became the corporation of Donna Summer Enterprises and Sweet Summer Night Music.

Married Bruce Sudano. Keeps stage name.

I can see why the late Laura Brannigan loved her so much. I hear precursors to "self-control" in this.
