The text font needs to be reduced down in size so it fits into the lower 1/3 of the banner on the left side where it doesn't block or compete with the images of the people and the font color brighten up a bit to where it is more peach (the brighter color where the sunset is, so it contrasts with the darker background. Looking at the original art color tones, after stretching out the picture, I now see how the original color tone works. What makes this picture dramatic is the contrast of color tones and the images of the people.
I think the font is tricky as it can make, be underwhelmed in, or overwhelm the picture. Fiddling with the font is an area of experimentation as the banner picture pretty much is just as it needs to me. Next is finding the right font, style and color so each sets the other off.
BTW, being trained as an oil painter in the old style of Flemish painting by a very famous artist ~ knowing how color and contrast is something that really makes the picture (banner) stand out in one's minds eye is important to me.
This picture is an example of the artist in question. Ironically, a long time later his son couldn't tell the difference between mine and his father's paintings.
I have this one hanging in my living room over the piano. What makes this stand out is the contrast in colors, landscape behind the items and arched window.

The technique is actually easy once mastered. The key to any good
still life (aside from composition) is lighting. The scene is
drawn onto paper and transposed to the hard surface of the board.
An acrylic wash is used to protect the drawing on the board and then
very thin layers of oil paint are applied. Each layer must
dry before the next layer is put down. A fan brush is use to
brush out the brush strokes so it ends up looking like a
photograph. It is very time consuming and takes patience but I
always had music playing in the background so the whole process was in
actuality very meditative.

I've created a thread for you, it will tell you how to do it.Bobbie wrote:I've changed my Avatar to reflect a nice misty morning in Glastonbury. That's the only way I know how to allow you all to see it at the moment. I'll wait until we have the new forum before delving into how to post a jpg. I did read the help section on how to insert a photo but this one came from my own collection, which the help sections says you can't insert into a post and while I took it off the internet, I don't have a clue, at the moment, from where. It would take too much time to find it right now.
I will create something with this later, it definately can be used for a banner it has perfect dimensions to use with this forum. :)Carol wrote:I also think this would make a good banner as well as it also has more light in it.
