30 years Old Food Forest

An old biodynamic farm was purchased by a man who knew nothing about growing food, but wanted to learn. The 3.5 acre food forrest is about 30 years old. It only takes maintenance one day every two weeks. There are multiple fruit and nut trees in the garden which produce buckets of fruit a week. The farmer said, "If I spend half the day working on the farm, I find I spend half the day wandering around just enjoying it or having a beer."

Mudra, I appreciate this post of yours very much I'm interested to go
and look into it. What I've found so far is, that it's accessible through membership
of Facebook and I'm not in that book. I don't intend to register either, so I wonder if
and how I can find access to it. I very much like to visit those permaculture gardens
in the UK, once I've found a place to live.

Today I'm happy for having found support for making that dream come true, taking
a next step,for I will leave Holland for a month of job interviews followed by my first
Xmas celebration in Totnes and my first birthday fireworks too, Jan. 1 2015.

That's my official last year of work obligation and I am working on it, making it the first,
in free choice, free will activities, as volunteer or as an empoyee in domestic care, leaving
the wellfare system in Holland to it's own acrobatics, pushing us, the many people without
a job in Holland, from the nasty tightly stretched, almost snapping rope of business style
people managing due to cutting costs.

No doubt, this is one of many examples of a system, with its pump and circumstance antics,
to make a show of it all, glamorous props of illusions, going down the drain, dissolving in thin
air. For that's what it was from the beginning: a game of the mind, convinced that it's hunky dory.....
in its own domain and private bank account. In my view, and this goes for all levels or our global
society, the human factor has never before been that much exposed in its crippled state as it is now.

Edible Perennial Polycultures

Pondering perennial polycultures? Anni Kelsey has some interesting ideas for you to try.

At its simplest, a polyculture of (mainly perennial) edibles will have plants of different heights or structures that snuggle up against each other comfortably plus some supporting plants to attract insects, accumulate minerals, or fix nitrogen.
Some of my favourite supporting plants are herbs because they are multifunctional e.g. fennel, thyme or lemon balm. Peas and beans are edible and also fix nitrogen, so they feature regularly as well.
By giving examples of some of my favourite polycultures I don't want to give the impression that they are fixed or standardised, or that there are "right" and "wrong" combinations. I would far rather convey that I think one of the chief delights of polycultures is that they are open to improvisation and it is great to try things out to see if they work.
Here are a few suggestions:
• Jerusalem artichoke with mashua climbing up and wild marjoram or lemon balm at the base. (These could be reversed, i.e. yacon with mashua or Jerusalem artichoke and French bean, with either oca or herbs at the base.)

• Yacon with peas or French bean twining round it, oca at the base. 
• Kale (e.g. Daubenton's kale, nine star perennial kale, walking stick kale) in the shade of currant bushes or raspberry canes.
• Wild strawberries with buckler leaf sorrel / three cornered leek / shallots as ground cover or along an edge.
