The power of Music - Page 3 Empty The Hilliard Ensemble

    Post  B.B.Baghor Mon Sep 21, 2015 6:06 am

A live concert "au naturel" of great beauty with acoustics of a church performance
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=18&v=dkmWdxKsQn0

A version, with Jan Garbarek on saxophone:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fO67BdTSOk

    (translation of "Parce mihi Domine")
"Spare me, Lord, for my days are as nothing.
What is Man, that you should make so much of us?
Or why should you set your heart upon us?
You visit us at dawn, and put us to the test at any moment.
Will you not spare me and let me be, while I swallow my saliva?
If I have sinned, how have I hurt you, O guardian of mankind?
Why have you set me up as your target, so that I am now a burden to myself?
Why do you not forgive my sin and why do you not take away my guilt?
Behold, I shall now lie down in the dust: if you come looking for me I shall have ceased to exist".

This version is without a saxophone, pure voices:

After 40 years of singing, the Hilliard ensemble has performed its farewell concert on Christmas 2014

Here's a musician I knew in the city I lived in during my last 23 years in Holland.
This is about the wonder of little miracles outside the realm of our mind.

An extraordinary man, albino amidst of black musicians, relatives and friends. Salif Keita's appearance shows a
peculiar vulnerability, almost of a feminine nature, with his white skin. Of course he's in stark contrast with his
company here and that makes him stand out, which is probably made use of delibirately. I'm not in favor of
adding the Western style of pump and circumstance to an African performance. It's like adding speedometers to
a cheetah, in order to enjoy her skill of running. That's why I like listening to African rythms without images.
Even better, to witness live music! Dance to it too. And of course... drums! Hmmmmm... uhmmmmmmm...  Crazy Happy

The power of Music - Page 3 Index12

To my ears and heart, Salif Keita combines a beautiful rawness and kindness, with his powerful voice, a shaman voice.
His album M'Bemba is one of my favorites. The song above is from that album. I've copied this album to my laptop
music files and with little speakers attached, I can dance on this music where I am now, just like I used to do often
in my home in Holland. Cheerful

Introduction of tracks featuring Sounding Bowls and Shakuhachi from the CD "Wind in the branches" by Tobias Kaye and Adrian Freedman.
With Tobias Kaye introducing a couple of trees, those magnificent beings he found welcoming him to the shaping of the sounding bowl.

Today I enjoyed a lunchtime concert in the Wells Cathedral, with the Levens Choir singing this song, among other beautiful pieces.
A most disciplined choir and the acoustics were great. This song was the last song in the burial service of princess Diana of Wales,
when her coffin was carried away, out of the church. Her death aroused so much compassion in England. I've been closely following
her, while living in Holland. She's very dear to me, this courageous and vulnerable woman, lady, mother and princess, now re-united
    with her wings Cheerful

"Song for Athene (she was called Diana in this lifetime)
    Alleluia Alleluia
May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest
    Alleluia Alleluia
    Remember me, O Lord,
when you come into your kingdom
    Alleluia Alleluia
Give rest, O Lord, to your handmaid who has fallen asleep
    Alleluia Alleluia
The Choir of Saints have found the well-spring of life and door of paradise
    Alleluia Alleluia
Life: a shadow and a dream
    Alleluia Alleluia
Come, enjoy rewards and crowns I have prepared for you.
    Alleluia Alleluia"

4 tracks with sounds that can bring joy and lift sorrows, of a frequency (of Herz) that is resonating with human brainwaves in a natural way. More of what that means is explained on the website www.prepareforchange.net

    Camelot! Camelot!
In far-off France I heard your call.
    Camelot! Camelot!
And here am I to give my all.
I know in my soul what you expect of me,
And all that and more I shall be.
A knight of the Table Round should be invincable,
Succeed where a less fantastic man would fail.
Climb a wall no one else can climb,
Cleave a dragon in record time,
Swim a moat in a coat of heavy iron mail.

No matter the pain, he ought to be invincable,
Impossible deeds should be his daily fare.
    But where in the world
    Is there in the world
    A man so extraordinaire?

C'est moi! C'est moi, I'm forced to admit.
    'Tis I, I humbly reply.
    That mortal who
    These marvels can do,
    C'est moi, c'est moi, 'tis I.
    I've never lost In battle or game;
I'm simply the best by far.
    When swords are crossed
    'Tis always the same:
    One blow and au revoir!
    C'est moi! C'est moi!
    So adm'rably fit!

    A French Prometheus unbound.
And here I stand, with valour untold,
    Exeption'ly brave, amazingly bold,
To serve at the Table Round!
The soul of a knight should be a thing remarkable,
His heart and his mind as pure as morning dew.
    With a will and a self-restraint
That's the envy of ev'ry saint
He could easily work a miracle or two.

To love and desire he ought to be unsparkable,
The ways of the flesh should offer no allure.
    But where in the world
    Is there in the world
A man so untouched and pure?
    (C'est moi!) C'est moi! C'est moi,
    I blush to disclose.
I'm far too noble to lie.
    That man in whom
    These qualities bloom,
    C'est moi, c'est moi, 'tis I.

    I've never strayed
    From all I believe;
I'm blessed with an iron will.
    Had I been made
    The partner of Eve,
    We'd be in Eden still.
    C'est moi! C'est moi!
    The angels have chose
    To fight their battles below,
And here I stand, as pure as a pray'r,
Incredibly clean, with virtue to spare,
    The godliest man I know!
    C'est moi!
