No Drilling for Oil in Achuar Territory!
The Achuar of the northern Peruvian Amazon have seen the impact of oil drilling and are fighting to keep Canadian oil company Talisman Energy out of their ancestral territory.

    http://www.change.org/petitions/university-of-utah-labs-must-cease-animal-cruelty

An eight-month PETA undercover investigation at the University of Utah documented the daily suffering of dogs, cats, monkeys, rats, mice, rabbits, and other animals in the school's laboratories.

Homeless dogs and cats—who were bought for $15 to $25 from local animal shelters through a Utah state "pound-seizure" law, which required government-run shelters to turn animals over to laboratories that requested them—were used in cruel, invasive experiments. In one study, a litter of kittens born to a cat bought from an animal shelter died after a chemical that causes fluid to build up was injected into their brains.

In other experiments, mice whose back legs were paralyzed, rats who suffered epileptic seizures, and mice with huge, ulcerated tumors covering their bodies were left to suffer without adequate veterinary care. Many animals died and were left for days before anyone noticed.

After breaking the news of our shocking investigation, we received confirmation from the University of Utah that Robert, one of the cats collected, would be removed from the laboratory and adopted into a

new home. Also, in early 2010, two more important developments in this case occurred: Utah legislators amended state law so that government-run animal shelters will no longer be forced to sell dogs and cats to laboratories upon request for use in cruel and deadly experiments, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture cited the University of Utah for nine violations of federal animal protection laws.

While this is great news for animals who live in animal shelters like Robert did, the University of Utah continues to perform cruel tests on animals inside its laboratories.

PETITIONS - Page 4 Empty Please Go Fur Free!

Post  burgundia Fri Oct 14, 2011 10:36 am

    http://www.change.org/petitions/intermix-please-go-fur-free

    Why this is Important

Intermix has every type of slaughtered and skinned animal for sale: Fox fur, rabbit fur, raccoon fur, and even coyote fur. Not only is fur disgustingly cruel, but it is totally unnecessary when there are so many fabulous faux fur options available. As long as shops like Intermix continue to sell fur, the fur industry will thrive, and the senseless killing of fur bearing animal will continue. When the public speaks, the industry listens. If we put pressure on Intermix and express our feelings about their sale of fur, we can make a change. Any shopping at Intermix is supporting this bloody industry, so I encourage everyone to cease shopping at Intermix until they go fur free. Please help the animals by signing our petition and together we can put compassion back in fashion.

Felix, a monkey in the Oxford University laboratory, was used in a sequence of experiments for a year. He was trained to perform repetitive movements and had electrodes surgically implanted in his brain. He was deliberately brain damaged to create symptoms of Parkinson's disease and had the effects on his brain and ability to move measured in tests. Then he was killed.

Felix may be gone, but it's not too late to prevent more animals from suffering as he did.

The license permitting this work allowed the highest level of suffering legally permitted in the UK. Now, the UK has an opportunity to change the law -- a law that controls the fate of more than 3.5 million animals like Felix every year.

PETITIONS - Page 4 Empty End Factory Farming Now! CAFO's Are Torture Chambers

Post  burgundia Sun Oct 16, 2011 4:16 am

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/5/end-factory-farming-now-cafos-are-torture-chambers/

Target: President Barack Obama, US senate, US Congress
    Sponsored by: Laura Farrell RN

CAFOs ie Factory Farms are torture for animals, devastating to the environment, a public health hazard and are detrimental to economic growth. This type of barbaric animal husbandry is out of step with the values of the average American citizen. We demand a return to a government by the people and for the people, rather than, a government for the lobbyists by the lobbyists.
The recent attempts by several states to ban filming on factory farms is a very good indicator that the industry is aware that their behavior is unacceptable to the majority of US citizens. Rather than attempt to fix these issues, instead they try to hide them. This tactic will no longer work as more and more mainstream media have begun broadcasting the truth.

EXAMINE THE GOVERNMENT’S FAILURE TO INVESTIGATE AND PROSECUTE CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY CRIME, FRAUD AND ABUSE.

WHEREAS, the FBI has 300+ recent complaints of Scientology crimes and atrocities - human trafficking, forced abortions and civil rights violations, and the IRS has evidence of private inurement violations justifying INTERMEDIATE SANCTIONS, and existing evidence on hand meets RICO statutes, WE REQUEST that the White House investigate and employ a Special Prosecutor to:

    EXAMINE why, with such an abundance of RICO evidence of Scientology being a corrupt and criminal entity, no law enforcement agency has moved forward;

    INVESTIGATE undue favor and pressure brought by lawyers for Scientology leader David Miscavige to stop the investigations;

EXAMINE why around the world the “church” is investigated as a criminal entity while the U.S. Government does nothing?

PETITIONS - Page 4 Empty Ban Bear Baiting in All 50 States

Post  burgundia Fri Oct 21, 2011 2:39 am

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/3/ban-bear-baiting-in-all-50-states/

Bears have their teeth and claws removed, are tethered to a post and are subjected to repeated assaults by dogs until it dies. Without teeth or claws, the bear cannot defend itself and is tormented simply for entertainment. It is illegal in every civilized country except Pakistan and the United States of America.

    From the HSUS report:
"There are currently 26 captive black bears in South Carolina, many likely used for bear baiting. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources issued permits for their possession, but has turned a blind eye to the cruelty they endure. The South Carolina DNR does not inspect bear baiting competitions.... The DNR issued captive bear permits to individuals who had been convicted of violating wildlife laws, including poaching a bear out of season."

This is not a sport, it is animal cruelty. We ask that you ban it from all 50 states and prosecute those who continue to participate with felony animal cruelty.

Please add your name now and share this campaign with friends and family.

ABC's Four Corners program this week showed graphic footage provided by Animals Australia and RSPCA that shows Australian cattle being mistreated in Indonesian slaughterhouses. There, cattle are often maimed and cruelly mistreated before slow and painful deaths that take agonising minutes after a cow's throat is cut. What's more, the callous slaughter is done using equipment paid for by Australian taxpayers.

It's time to end live export of Australian cattle.

Our friends at Animals Australia and the RSPCA are running a great campaigns on the issue of live exports. Animals Australia investigators are responsible for the footage that featured in last night's Four Corners show.

Please join the Animals Australia campaign and email your local MP about live exports: www.animalsaustralia.org/take_action/festival-of-sacrifice

Please join the RSPCA campaign and email Prime Minister Julia Gillard: www.banliveexport.com/#takeAction

Urge China to introduce an Animal Protection Law

Target: Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Chairman Wu Bang Guo
Sponsored by: World Wide Legal Action for Animal Rights - Care for Chinese Animals

There is an increasing number of cases where individuals torture animals and publicise widely on the internet their abuse and the satisfaction they get from such acts. This shows yet again that the adoption of proper animal welfare legislation in China is an urgent need. In a land with no laws, anything is possible, and when anything is possible, every horror imaginable occurs.

    http://www.change.org/petitions/prevent-the-electrocution-of-costa-rican-wildlife

Prevent the electrocution of Costa Rican wildlife

    [b]
    Why this is Important

Studies show that an estimated 50% of arboreal wildlife was killed between 1995 and 2007 in Costa Rica, and the main course attributed to electrocution on the governments un-insulated electrical grid. Many of these electrocutions happen within national park boundaries.

From the outside, it appears the Costa Rican government does not think wildlife electrocutions are of much concern, and therefore, there is no policy in place to insulate electrical wires or engage in the building of monkey bridges across these dangerous lines. When monkeys try crossing from canopy to canopy they use these uninsulated electrical lines and wind up being electrocuted and fried. Sometimes, a baby monkey is found, still clinging onto its dead mothers tummy and unable to survive on its own.

PLEASE sign this petition to support the prevention of wildlife electrocutions in Costa Rica, or simply if you do not agree with the occurrence of electrocutions. We need to document the incidents, locations, witnesses, ICE post #'s, and any other available data, and send it to ICE.

In signing the petition you agree that:

I feel strongly that the Costa Rican Government should immediately insulate all electric lines and transformers, in order to stop the electrocution of Costa Rica's precious wildlife. This is an issue that needs urgent attention from the Costa Rican government. The beautiful wilderness and wildlife of Costa Rica should be protected for all residents of mother earth, and for all future generations.

We need at least 100,000 signatures, to be able to request an audience regarding this issue. ANYBODY OUT THERE WANT TO HELP ?

We must as a country, put first the desires of our citizens, rather than that of big business. We also must put the health and well-being of our citizens, above corporate greed. It seems ludicrous, that we need to remind our government of things they should already know.
